IAWTP. The only really serious problem with the US is that the government is spending far more than it takes in on a long term basis. That will get fixed one way or the other within a few years. Either the Republicans will be put in charge and realize they have to do something, or else they won't, in which case they will be likely to recognize that their intransiegence is no longer being rewarded, and they'll compromise.

There are plenty of moderately serious problems, like increasing income inequity and household financial unpredictability due to the lack of a safety net. Those are bad for the people affected, and should be reduced, but they won't damage the underlying strength of the country. And there have always been such problems, usually more serious in the past than now.
