You are correct.

However if a VP succeeds a President who still had more than 24 months left in office (like Ford did), he/she can only run once.

Had Ford won in 1976 he would have been term-limited after that even though it would have been his sole election.

However LBJ was not limited in 1968 since JFK had only about 14 months left in his term when Johnson succeeded him.
It's why LBJ was able to run (briefly) in 1968.
