Ignites Class Warfare, posted by dand124 on Tue Feb 28 09:09:59 2012. i never heard of other employees being stiffed by waitstaff. on the other hand i know more than one person who had the restaurant steal a portion of the tip from the waitstaff. granted this type of theft is less likely to happen at the type of places i eat at but still.An old girlfriend of mine -- many many years ago -- was "of Hispanic origin". Her mother always made it a point to give a cash tip directly to the busboy (almost always also "of Hispanic origin") because she believed strongly that the waiters and waitresses would not share the tips equitably. I have no idea on what she based this, but the story has stuck with me and rather than go around doling out cash tips individually to everyone in the restaurant, I just put it on the credit card and allow the restaurant to divvy things up.
