I took a prep course at my middle school. It was a fucking joke. They were teaching us how to add fractions. Everyone I know who took that course failed the exam. Fortunately for me, I happened to have an older brother who was a master test taker. When I mention prep course, I'm not referring to some generic, government-funded course that teaches you the bare minimum. I'm referring to these academies in the article where Asian parents spend up to $1000. You don't see them in East New York or Washington Heights, but you see them all over Flushing, Jackson Heights, and Sunset Park. |
