Maybe massive export tariffs and/or price controls so American companies will be forced to sell domestically at a lower price.That will result in American companies taking their business elsewhere while also putting them at a disadvantage against foreign companies that import and sell here. It would result in the shuttering of refining capacity and gasoline shortages. Such tactics only work in countries that nationalize their oil industry while also being net exporters of crude who can then effectively subsidize their domestic consumption. It can't work with the private sector, especially in a country that is a net importer of crude and will always remain so. We'd also end up offshoring our refining capacity (of which we are now net exporters) and having to import refined products under such a disastrous policy. |
