Because it's easier and cheaper for TransCanada to export it to China via a pipeline going through the US Plains to ports on the Gulf of Mexico then building a super-expensive one through the Canadian Rockies.it's also politically easier for Canadian politicians to pollute American acquifers than to do the same to Canadian ones. You are holding TransCanada's bag. The amount of oil produced doesn't change meaning the price doesn't change whether the pipeline goes through the US or through Canada, except we'll also end up importing food once "America's Breadbasket's" main acquifer become one big Superfund site. |
