One man's treason is another man's freedom.The question isn't whether the South had the right to withdraw from the Union and form a separate country. The question is what was the driving force behind it. Southerners today will tell you that it was about states' rights and the freedom to govern apart from Washington, D.C. But in truth it was about the freedom to keep slaves. |
