Democrats have partnered with Republicans on (tiny) social spending cuts since the 90's.

Gotta pander to the independents. :-)

Affirmative action is wrong.

It depends on your perspective. If one feels that it's critical to get blacks and other non-Asian minorities into professional and prestigious positions in order to improve their standing and grow their middle and upper classes and right historical wrongs while fighting other socio-economic disparities, then yes it's right. If you feel that it's wrong to prop up people based on historical legacies, then it's wrong. And if you feel that it props up people who are under qualified for their positions, then it's wrong. If you think it's wrong for the first reason, the presumption is that said group can improve with hard work and dedication, but if you feel that it's wrong for the second group, then it does require some degree of acceptance of HBD and the concept that these groups may have lower IQ than whites and Asians.

Why should Republicans even give a shit about them?

The theory is that Republicans should pander to non-whites in order to disprove the theory that they're racist and to ensure that with demographic shifts, the Republicans can maintain control or even expand their power thus turning the the DNC into a weak party with no full voting block as their base.
