I can see it coming. The funny thing is, FDR fixed the banking system in 1933 with a host of reforms, including Glass-Steagall, and essentially said, "Now if nobody fucks with this, the country will be just fine." We then had fifty years of uninterrupted economic growth. Then the GOP, starting with Reagan and Bush I, started dismantling the safeguards FDR gave us. The deregulated because (among other things) they thought tech advances would keep us out of trouble. Clinton reversed some of the damage during his two terms, and we again enjoyed a decade of uninterrupted economic growth. Then came Bush II, and we've been trying to pick up the pieces ever since.I can picture old FDR screaming down from Heaven, "I told you dumbasses not to touch that!" But nawww, it's Obama's fault, right? SMH!!! |
