And that is what I meant by codifying vengeance,It doesn't codify vengeance. It codifies order and safety. Society doesn't penalize the owner of a double-parked vehicle or the guy who parks in front of a fire hydrant out of vengeance. It does so to keep order and safe conditions. Civilization depends on these rules. |
