Actually it's a term coined by politicians to fool and not turn off the non-anti-Semitic voters after the horrors of the Holocaust. These had become attuned to the older more obvious anti-Semitic code words.As you said, the "base" knew that it really meant "Christian Nation". The Jews were/are just as disgusted with the term since it's and insult and defies any religious or historical logic. They have might as well said "ki*e" and gotten it over with but it's others who didn't want to hear such terms any longer. So we got "libruls", "race-mixers" and "Judeo-Christian" instead. Anti-Catholicism code words went from the explicit "Papist" and "foreign cults", to stuff like "Baaahhhh-bull-Believing Christians", and "social justice practitioners". Hagee went down because he never got the memo. |
