I do not favor redistribution for its own sake (I don't think anybody does), but I do support the negative income tax. In my case though I think it should be a replacement for most government entitlements. Including but not limited to welfare, food stamps, SSI, social security, Medicare and Medicaid. An exception would be public schools.My reason for supporting this form of redistribution is that IMO it increases overall wealth. IE the entire society is better off on average because some people are a lot better off yet some people are pretty much not worse off at all (do you think a person with billions would really miss another few million?). |
