For middle class Americans who have a pension and or a deferred comp plan, 85% of your social security benefits are taxable at your current rate (if your other incomes exceed $32,000). President Bush proposed an opt-out plan and was crucified by the left. I don't believe that opt-out is workable at this time but allowing your contributions to be invested in other securities could allow social security to become solvent in a few years. |
