So children who don't go to formal religious indoctrination are not members of their religion yet those who do are? Is that how you figure it out? What if the child of two practicing Jews was sent to a Catholic school and attended the religious classes to avoid persecution? (these are just examples). Does that child become Catholic even if they practice Judaism at home and for the rest of their life? The fact is that children aren't considered old enough to do something important like vote or enter into binding legal contract, yet you consider them old enough to decide what kind of eternal damnation they prefer? Maybe it's because you consider voting and entering contract to be important, something that one has to be mature and responsible to choose, while choosing religion is something minor and inconsequential like choosing whether you prefer the Big Mac or the Whopper so that it's OK for six year olds to decide. |
