The current national average, according to AAA, is $3.91; the all-time high of $4.11 was reached on 7/17/08. The reason it was so cheap in the winter of 2008-9 is because refineries underestimated how sharply demand would drop off because of the poor economy and were left with a lot of unsold oil. |
