Unprecedented! You're overlooking a long tradition of high ranking politicians doing things for personal political gain. How about Roosevelt's "Martin, Barton, and Fish" speeches and Nixon's Checkers speech. Neither was about substance; both were about belittling your enemies. Both worked. |
