Even before they leave the house, they may be exposed to it via friends, TV, Movies or even experimentation. It's the parents job to deal with the issues and questions in a mature way. The state is not needed here. And if another parent doesn't do such a good job, oh well. No teacher can teach these subjects without their own personal prejudices seeping into the lessons. It's human nature. Parents will at least bring sensitivity to the subject instead of a dry clinical explanation. |
