They don't do bubbles in the economies that MATTER (Germany, France). That Portugal and Eire wanted to cash in on low interest rates and unregulated banking and real estate practices is THEIR fault. ECB policymakers aren't going to alter their rate policies based on speculative economic fundamentals in tiny economies that don't matter in the big scheme of things. It was Eire and Greece's choice to want to get on the Euro. They knew what they were getting into and chose to ignore it for short-term gain. The Germans, the Dutch, the Austrians and the French don't play the speculative game with their own economies. When their economies are weakening, the rates get lowered. When they overheat (like now), the rates are increased. If the PIIGS don't like it, they can go back to their own currencies and stop sucking off the teats of the smart countries. God Bless Axel Weber and Jean-Claude Trichet. |
