When I threw my back out once upon a time, I got put on ACR duty--that is, I ran around the city collecting ACRs from "participating provider" hospitals, those hospitals that operate ambulances in NYC's 911 system. I got to know the staff at several of these hospitals pretty well, and I met a fellow who had similarly been put on "light" duty. Turned out he was a radiologist, and he walked me through the film-badge procedure. After a certain amount of time taking X-rays or CT scans, radiology department employees have to do something else, away from their department for a while. Those rems and rads do add up. The scrutiny DOH and the city put on portable X-ray machines in particular, and the OSHA rules governing their use are very, very stringent.But Coulter can keep right on spouting her mythology. Uranium is her friend. |
