Maybe Ann should have read my post here (yeah right), where I, affirmed liberal, defended her.

I will not deny liberals can be less than scientific and Coulter has actually done a great job of pointing out many of the cases where liberals resorted to knee-jerk reaction, jingoism and dogma rather than relying on scientific data -- this is why I admit that there are plenty of crazies on the Left. These issues include nuclear power -- which despite the events in Japan and the two previous nuclear incidents has demonstrated itself to be a safe, reliable and clean energy supply (I'd rather live next to a nuclear power plant than a coal plant; and as it happens I do, with Millstone being less than 25 miles to the south), cancer clusters (statistical flukes), and of course, IQ -- both within race differences (which why everyone can't be average) and between race differences (which is why the "achievement gap" can't be closed -- even if blacks and Latinos improve, for the gap to disappear whites and E. Asians have to not improve -- and then what about the Jews?). Bill Maher hammered Coulter on this point, a point where was hinting at something that was technically correct:

(At about 4:09)

The point is that there are plenty of examples of liberals being less-than-wholly-scientific for sake of what is the current political convention. This is why I occasionally endorse positions that are traditionally "conservative", because my politics is dictated by fact, not by what is politically in vogue.

That being said, there is no question that when it comes to flushing down science in favor of politics, the Right takes the cake. Just because people on the political Left endorse some unscientific things doesn't mean that global warming is suddenly a hoax. And to contrary to Coulter, EVERYONE DOES NEED TO FEAR AIDS (who is sexually active or has exchanged bodily fluids in some way). That is not incompatible with the fact that AIDS is more prevalent among gays than heterosexuals (it is also more prevalent among blacks than other racial groups).
