What does "ethnic (Ashkenazi)" mean to you?It means people who are of Ashkenazi (as distinguished from Sephardic and other branches of Jews) Jewish descent, whether or not they embrace the culture or the religion. I don't think that the majority of Ashkenazi Jews are atheists. I wouldn't be surprised if they were. I know plenty of Jews are non-religious, and owing to their high IQ's this is not surprising. nor do I think most atheists are Jewish Since Jews make up a tiny portion of both the U.S. and the world population they are obviously not the majority of atheists. >>>>Obviously most atheists don't have these problems. Sure they do. You can see it on this board too. That's not what the evidence says. I don't think a collection of railfans is exactly representative of either the general or the atheist population. The problem is, only intellectual elites come out and say they are atheist b/c it's cool in your community. That will skew the results in your favor. Most of my middle-class or working-class friends who "don't believe in that shit" don't actually self-identify as atheists. If they don't believe, that would make them atheists. The data comes from a survey of teens from across the U.S. that included an IQ test along with question to assess social traits such as religiosity. It is far more accurate that attempting to count "proud atheists" one comes across. |
