If we had a payroll tax based Medicare-for-all single payer system, "premiums" would have hardly budged for most people in the last ten years since median wages have been flat. (after all, somebody making roughly the same today as he did 10 years isn't paying more existing Medicare tax).OTOH, health insurance premiums, deductibles, out of pocket costs, etc, have skyrocketed resulting in less take home pay which means less consumer spending and other things once the credit line ran out. The vampiric health insurance companies are one of the reasons we are in the rut we are today. They need to be legislatively outlawed. |
