Imagine, for example, that you've just been convicted of pedophilia. You face decades behind bars, the obvious target of every inmate and guard in whatever prison you are sent to. During your trial it has become very clear that your life, if you were acquitted, has been utterly and completely destroyed. Even your defense attorney hates you, and he's supposed to be on your side!In prison, you can expect a lide of daily beatings, isolation, and almost constant suffering. Faced with that living hell, who in their right mind would even think of living through it? I admit the above is an extreme example, but I would not second-guess anyone in that situation who commits suicide. |
