Truman is also a very underrated president, in that he is not held in high esteem by many, but should be.

his rating among historians has gone up considerably in the last 30-40 years. He usually rates in the Top 10 now.
What he symbolized is still greatly feared by right-wingers. When was the last time that a US President called his opponents "reactionary stooges" and unapologetically called for a "liberal, foward-looking" domestic policy and other such "soshulist" talk?

Imagine Obama giving a speech like this .

Desegregating the Armed Forces by Executive Order at risk of throwing away his Presidency? That's the stuff of legend.
Now we can't even get rid of DADT quickly even though it's repeal is supported overwhelmingly by everyone including a majority of Republicans.
