No, the Yankees still lead the Rays by one game in a tight A.L. East race, and the Red Sox, eight games back, still have a small, tiny chance.

But by beating the Athletics 9-3 tonight at the Stadium, the Yankees win their 82d game, and clinch their eightheenth winning season.

You have to go back to 1992 for the Yankees' last losing season, and 2000 A.D. has been the lowest season of this run with an 87-74 record.(The Yankees were 70-43, and leading the Orioles by six games on strike day 1994).

The Yankees are 82-50 and 44-22 at The Stadium with 30 games remaining.

This season is resembling 2008, but with the Yankees and the Red Sox reversed, the Yankees and the Rays battling it out, and the Red Sox chasing them.

The Red Sox (74-58) are eight behind the Yankees for the A.L. East and seven behind the Rays (81-51) for the A.L. Wildcard.

The Los Angeles Angels at 64-68, I think, are nearly done in the A.L. West and at 17 games behind the Rays are done in the A.L, Wildcard. 2000 A.D. - 2009 was a good decade for the Angels and the best in their team history.

Maybe Yankees, Rays, Rangers and Twins or White Sox in the A.L..

N.L. is very tight with at least nine or ten clubs having a mathimatical chance and at least eight or even nine of those teams having a decent chance. The Metropolitans, even at 65-67, are only 8.5 games behind the Phillies for the N.L. Wildcard.

Only non-tight race is N.L. Central, where the surprising Reds now find themselves leading the second place Cardinals by seven games.

Braves and Reds are 77-55, and the surprising Padres are 76-54.
