David, and those people are WRONG to threaten violence and burn down buildings, etc. But there is no proof they are "right wing". maybe they are, maybe they aren't, but it's not "right wing" that is against this WTC mosque, it's the majority of Independents and Democrats too.If this mosque was truly about "building a bridge between Islam and the United States", then they surely have a strange way of showing it, as this has done nothing but make relations worse than I have ever seen it. It's worse than directly after 911, and this "bridge" has done the opposite effect, and has just increased anomosity between Muslims and non-Muslims. If they were truely trying to build a bridge, as the claim is, they would acknowledge, that "yes, this could be anti-sensitive and counter productive to build this so close to a location where Islamic fundamentalists killed 3000 people. There are 100's of mosques in the city, and few if any had any problems building. And many were built AFTER 911. There are 1ooo's of mosques in the country, and few have had problems. But this latest controversy, and the absolute refusal of the mosque builders to even slightly acknowledge that this is a sensitivity issue has made the situation boil. Because of the horror of relations this has caused, now even small projects may see problems, as instead of building a bridge, they have built a huge wall with barbed wire on it. |
