Interesting historical note: in 2001, on Tour 1 (the overnight), one dispatcher handled Manattan South EMS and Manhattan Central EMS. Everybody south of EMS Battalion 11 used the Central channel until 9 AM when the South dispatcher came on.The first EMS unit to report an attack on the WTC was 04C1, which was parked at Church and Reade Streets. They said "We just witnessed an airplane hit the World Trade Center." Immediately, the South/Central dispatcher assigned those words a job number--0808--and put it on EVERYBODY's screen. Our lives were never the same again after that. |
