The 9/11 families wanted that site for a war memorial---and had almost seven years to buy it.The price paid for the site was $4.85 million. In any area of Manhattan, especially with the absurd real estate prices prevalent, that's called a song. Even when the economy was good, it would not have cost more than $7 million. A foundation and the local business community can easily raise $7 million. It doesn't matter what the purchasers were planning; that's irrelevant. |
