Guardsman are not Border Patrol agents. They have neither the training or know-how to successfully identify, interdict and detain illegal border-crossers. They are part-timers with various occupational specialties completely unrelated to such a mission. In addition, the yearly bi-weekly training of such personnel has been focused completely on the missions in Afghanistan and/or Iraq and there is no time for this in any training calendar let alone an operational one. Furthermore calling these civilians for Active Duty would be an expense that a State on the verge of bankruptcy cannot afford. Logistical support is non-existent. Where will they live? How will they be supplied? As you can see, just off the top of my head, it's not even remotedly feasible for more than three days. |
