Its a shame that we all seem to have gotten away of the basic meaning of the St.Patricks day parade. I, being a proud Irishman, was brought up to think that is was supposed to celebrate the Irish contribution to American society, how a proud, repressed people came here to start a new life, facing fierce discrimination along the way, and over time thrived & succeded.All this political & sexual orientation bullshit is turning what was to be a basic celebration of pride into an embarrasing farce. Poor Jack Mc Carthy would be spinning like a lathe in his grave if he knew what a spectical this has degenerated to I used to march up 5th Ave every March 17th under the County Down banner with my brother. The events of 9/11 changed all that. Now I march alone. |
