It's just like how (IINM) someone that has been divorced cannot get married in a Catholic Church. You have to follow their rules.

Correct, someone that has been divorced can not be married in the Catholic Church. However, that is only relevant to the fact if either of the couple were married was married IN the Catholic Church the first time before getting divorced and remarried. You can still get married in the Catholic Church, if you are divorced, so long as you weren't married in the Catholic Church to begin with, as the Catholic Church doesn't recognize marriages not performed in the church. For example, if you are Catholic, and married somebody in Las Vegas or in another church, or just civilly, and then get divorced from that person, you can still be married in the Catholic Church, as the original marriage was never recognized by the Church.
But in any event, you are totally correct, you have to follow their rules, and if you don't agree with their rules, you are free to not be a member of that choice, and join some other choice.
