The marginal utility of money decreases as income and wealth increase. i.e. The same percent of your money with a higher income is worth less to you. It's the principal justification for a progressive tax scheme.This doesn't explain why Obama donated less than Bush, but otherwise it works out in your example (However your example only looks at income and ignores wealth). |
