Technically, we have. In 1976 we lost the World Series to the Reds; in 1980 the ALCS to the Royals; in 2001 the World Series to the Diamondbacks: in 2003 the World Series to the Marlins and in 2004 the ALCS to the Red Sox.

But we also lost the 1963 World Series to the Dodgers under President Kennedy and the 1964 World Series to the Cardinals under Presdent Johnson.

The Mets won one World Series and lost one under President Nixon and won one World Series and lost one NLCS under President Reagan.
