This letter to the Boston Herald today says it all."Dear Yankee fans....... You won. Money talks. We're all thrilled for you. The Phillies have one quality SPer, one of the worst bullpens in the league and an overrated (but good) lineup. The NL just doesn't quite measure up. I take nothing away from the Yankees. They should have won. They did win. Another bought championship. But what the hell, it's still a championship. And we are all happy for you. Really we are. Now you can go forth and purchase Bay or Holliday or another SPer or whoever you want. Next off-season you can buy Mauer. Shopping is so much fun." Yes, the Yankees were the best team and deserved to win. But they got that way by spending the most money. If you want to be proud of that, fine. But don't think anyone not looking at the world through pinstriped lenses will be joining you. |
