Imagine for a moment that you are not executive management at NYCT. You are, instead, a disabled individual whose only hope for continued survival is SSI/SSD, Medicaid, and Section 8.Rogers asserts, "When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them." Should you then be forced to die, because government should not be "taking care" of you? "Are there not prisons? Are there not workhouses?"--Ebenezer Scrooge, in Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol. I understand and expect that a portion of my taxes will be used to care for the poor, disabled, and orphaned. God help us, as a nation of decent people, if we ever let our government stop looking after those in desperate straits. |
