Of course they help decide the outcome of the game, but they have nothing to do with the rest of the action. IOW you are not typically allowed to kick the ball except in limited situations.To further illustrate (or confuse) imagine if in baseball you got 6 points for scoring across the plate, but then then you could roll the ball between two sticks to get one more point. WTF would that have to do with hitting, pitching, and catching? Football is built around running and throwing. The field goals are remnants of the sport that it derived from - soccer. We don't have to agree, but that's how I see it. And like I said, I love football! |
