There is a way to fix it: Nuclear power. The big problem is the hoops through one has to jump, and then the litigation and delay tactics that make companies just give up (which is why there has been only one new application for a new plant since 1979---and that came last year).However, I don't see anyone in the conservative camp pitching it as an alternative (although I did pitch it in the relevant discussion here. Bringing it back to the original topic, it is for the same reason that national healthcare, as currently proposed, will not pass, at least so long as new general taxes such as a VAT or taxing of private health plans, which would be destructive competition, are proposed. |
