You're sounding like a Republican. Nothing in economics works that way. Cut taxes by $1 and the added economic activity doesn't increase taxes by $1, no matter what some people here would say. It only adds a moderate fraction of $1.I didn't mean that extra economic growth would pay for the entire $1 trillion. That would be Republican voodoo economics. I mean that if savings and consolidation of existing expenditures plus the scheduled tax cut expirations would for example pay for let's say 70% of that $1 trillion, then economic growth spurred by an efficient quasi-universal system could take care of the remaining 30%. (I'm using these fictional figures as examples). Republican Voodoo Economic Theory holds that if you you cut taxes on billionaries and Paris Hilton by $1 trillion, the Treasury will magically raise $1.5 trillion in taxes because of new growth. |
