Pretty soon we'll be talking about Fortunoff's in this thread.

Does anyone remember Great Eastern in Elmont? It used to be where the Home Depot on Hempstead Turnpike is now. They were kind of like Woolworth's on steroids. The store was huge, they had everything and there was a Hills supermarket attached to it. They were a chain, IIRC. I've tried to find pictures but there doesn't seem to be anything out there.

In the early 1970's a trip with my parents to Great Eastern usually ended with us stopping at Gouz (rhymes with cows) on Dutch Broadway.
