Many a time did I accompany my mom shopping at the Herald Square Gimbels. Living in Crown Heights, it was a one-seat ride on the Q (pre-Chrystie) or D (post-Chrystie) from Prospect Park to 34 St/Herald Square. (though sometimes we'd take the B47 one stop to Empire/Washington if it was coming). My favorite floor in Gimbels was the 6th, which had the toys (when I was younger) and the records (when I was older)(though I got most of my records from A & S on Fulton St (8th floor there).
