If leading members of the House GOP stopped comparing the Republican Party to the Taliban, that might help too!The Democrats coalesced through the politics of image, not substantive disagreement. Republicans have major issues to work through, but in terms of crass politics, if the economy is still up Shit Creek without a paddle in late 2012, if the GOP presents a candidate who projects favorably, they might just regain some of their previous power, regardless of whether or not anyone's ideas make sense or not. Of course, if the economy continues its doldrums further, they too will lose control. I tend to think that we will have quite a few years of the economy being up the creek. |
