Consider when he announced his retirement!IIRC he said that he wasn't interested in a second term from Day 1 of his reign at the DNC. Of course when you think of it, it couldn't be any other way. Had he failed he would have been booted out anyway. Had he succeeded (which he did), there would be a new Democratic leadership in charge of Congress and/or the WH who will want their own people at the DNC. He made both things happen in consecutive cycles. Steele finds himself in the same position that Dean did in early 2005. However since he is much more affable then Dean, I wouldn't exclude him being on the GOP ticket in 2012. |
