Unless both engines were "seized" as opposed to "windmilling" both hydraulic and electrical systems were probably operating allowing for a controlled ditching. Furthermore, the A320 has a RAT (Ram Air Turbine) that automatically deploys or can be manually deployed and the APU (Auxiliary Power Unit) can also be deployed both of which will power the necessary systems.I hesitate to comment further other than to say that time, or lack thereof, was the overriding issue/concern. Thankfully, preliminary reports from the FAA say all souls on board escaped. |
