It's not "compromised" if the STATE allows gays to marry. Those religious institutions can dictate how they handle "marriage". It's not up to the government to decide "what is marriage" nor is it up to those religious organizations. I have no problem with the governemnt allowing some sort of "civil union" between two people if they are gay. However, I do believe the term "marriage" is best left to the religious institutions (who also have no right to dictate what the state does). |
