It was done so that people could use the roadway for jogging, biking, walking, dog walking, and rollerblading. Molloy's track team trains there as well as some other schools. You will find senior citizens and mother's with baby carriages all walking along this 1.5+ mile road. Before it was closed completely the Parks Dept. would close FPD from 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM on weekdays and all day on the weekends. The people loved it and asked to have it closed permanently. I did my training for the NYC Marathon there back in 1989. I also must have ridden my bike thousands of miles there too. I find it completely safe. |
