TThe difference between Ayers and Tankleff is:

1)Tankleff denies committing the crime and the prosecutors cannot prove otherwise

2)Ayers freely admits he committed crimes; it was prosecutorial misconduct that kept him from going to prison.

And, by the way, Ayers isn't sorry for what he did.
