"Who knew the hippies had all that power?"Think about how long we spent in Vietnam. Exactly. It wasn't the hippies who sapped our will to fight. It was the fight itself that sapped our will. Nixon didn't withdraw troops because hippies told him to. He withdrew them because the majority of the country didn't think the cause was worthwhile. And that majority didn't change their minds because of the hippies. They despised the Viet Cong just as much in 1974 as in 1964. They just didn't think that eliminating them was a useful goal any more. |
