The Trenton Cutoff would serve better as a more direct Amtrak route between New York and Harrisburg, bypassing Philly (a shorter route than that would be the CNJ or LVRR to RDG, via Allentown). It's absurd that the PRR never used the Trenton Cutoff for the Broadway Limited and other NYP-CHI trains. Even more absurd was Conrail being allowed to tear down the wires and basically turn the route into a severed "secondary". |
