You're assuming McCain will make enough headway in the right states. So far, his headway is in all the wrong places that it won't matter. Can McCain gain voters in New Mexico (a bellwether state)? Colorado? NO? Then it will end up 269-269 at worst for Obama, with Democrats currently controlling state delegations by one...and Democrats are highly unlikely to select McCain. (Iowa is looking better and better for Obama, because Iowa would benefit heavily under Obama.) And under this scenario, Obama needs none of the states of New Hampshire, Ohio, or Virginia, although he will win at least one, any of which will be enough. McCain may win the popular vote by a lot...but lose the electoral vote, and on November 5 or after, McCain will complain about how Obama won with just 42% of the vote. |
