Figure a 401k worth about $850,000 a pension worth $125,000 $1,100,000 in life insurance(8x an annual salary of $135,000) a home worth $500,000 COLI, BOLI, 2 cars worth book value of $12,500 each, $50,000 in bank accounts, and another $50,000 in company stocks.Um, you're talking about a damn fool who makes his life insurance payable to his estate instead of to his beneficiar(ies) (which IINM exempts it from estate tax), and then has the bad sense to die before retirement too. Also, if the home is worth 500K, half is not subject to estate tax because it would be owned by the surviving spouse. And if he's not married, why does he need 1.1 million in life insurance? So I agree it's possible, but it's not exactly a typical case, even for someone making 135K. |
